House panel archives bills on postponement of barangay, SK polls

August 25, 2010, 9:26pm Manila Bulletin MANILA (PNA) — Members of the committee on suffrage and electoral reforms of the House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to archive all pending House bills and resolutions calling for the postponement of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections. During the committee hearing Wednesday, at least 22 lawmakers voted in favor of the motion of Valenzuela City Rep. Magtanggol Gunigundo "to lay on the table all pending bills and resolutions calling for the postponement of barangay and SK elections." In effect, House committee chair and Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga said, this would mean suspension of deliberations on the measures indefinitely and that election of barangay and SK officials will push through as scheduled on October 25, this year. Final Line Up of Team Daliao Announced

While there are clamors for the postponement of the barangay election, Team Daliao has finalized its line up for the forthcoming barangay polls. Last Sunday, August 1, the group has revealed that the team's final composition include Rodolfo "Oping" Te as Chair, and incumbent councilors Rene Pebenito and Munding Zapanta, former councilors Junex Oberez, Ryan Maboloc, and Elmer Lazo, and newcomers Mino Mulat and Mayang Cascabel. Mr. Te reiterates the importance of commitment and valuing one's work as the pillars for public service. Not to be held presumptuous, part of the group's agenda is the revival of the kind of governance that the members of the group are known for. The group has emphasized the equitable distribution of development funds for the 21 sitios and specific projects and programs for each committee, women, the youth, senior citizens and the urban poor in particular.
