4 Barangay Officials to file Petition to Save a 100-year old Acacia Tree in Daliao

In a show of unity for Mother Nature, Kgd. Joseph Dumogho, Kgd. Joven Anthony Mulat, Kgd. Raymond Zapanta, and Kgd. Christopher Ryan Maboloc will file a Petition to Save a 100-year Acacia Tree in Barangay Daliao. The century old tree is in danger of being cut because of a road widening project. However, upon inspection and with the opinion of an urban planner consulted by Kgd. Maboloc, the tree does not have to be cut necessarily even if a second lane is to be added to the road. The tree, located at the junction of Fish Port Avenue and J. Dela Cruz Street, is healthy.

Kgd. Maboloc, who is a professor at Ateneo de Davao University, has posted online his appeal to the Department of Public Works and Highways to spare the tree. He has also contacted through informal channels the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources - CENRO and the DPWH Region XI on the matter. He has been advised to write a petition letter so that the Sangguniang Barangay can inform the proper authorities of the position of the majority. Dr. Maboloc wrote on his post the need "to balance progress with environmental sustainability."
