Why Barangay Daliao is Progressive

By Dr. Christopher Ryan Maboloc I have been a barangay official since 1992, two terms as SK Chairman and five terms as member of the Sangguniang Barangay, interrupted only when I did not run in 2007 to study abroad. Since then, you can see the changes in our barangay. We once held our regular sessions at the back of the old barangay hall, now gone and replaced with our modern techvoc center. Our barangay plaza today is quite stunning, with five two-storey buildings in all, including a new session hall, majority of which are through the initiative of Rep. Isidro Ungab. All of the progress that you can observe in our barangay, from paved roads and a novel techvoc program, is because of one man - Rodolfo Oping Te.

Like Deng Xiaoping of China, our own has opened barangay Daliao to the outside world and welcomed greater cooperation with our top goveŕnment officials, especially Mayor Sara and Cong. Ungab. The good captain also united the barangay council so that every kagawad will have his distinct function and responsibility. If you are observant enough, he does not hold office upstairs but downstairs, where he can meet directly with our constituents. I have worked with five (5) different punong barangays, but kap, as he is fondly called, is truly a top caliber. He is humble, generous but at the same time, a principled man. He gives real autonomy to the youth and helps people in need. He consults and uses democratic dialogue as means to reach out to the people. The pictures here represent his vision of human development.
